Vernon Watts

Bio:  My name is Vernon Watts & I am one of the thousands of prisoner x’s in I.D.O.C. seeking to bring change not only to prison but in society as well; my aim is to network ideas and views so we can stop this mass incarceration at the expense of human lives with no true rehabilitation.  I love reading, studying history, writing poetry, producing short stories, and just building on the foundation that was laid before us so I can continue to carry the torch sparking the fire for a better us because a better us equals a better world; so I invite all opinions from every perspective hoping we can get back to the forgotten proverb “Iron Sharpen Iron.”  You can contact me at: Vernon Watts #B67369, PO Box 1700, Galesburg, Illinois 61401 for further dialogue and solutions with the intent our voices can become one microphone!

(PRISONER X)

Hello world I am one of the many prisoner x’s / one of the many whose voice has been muffled, silenced, & overlooked because a text.  Lost in social translation because my line can only dial numbers/ and seen as a product not recognized as human but only as a number.  Deeper than the surface I been incarcerated before this modern wall / ancient ideologies and & philosophies knew they could break generations by keeping the two between a call.  Not to never excuse my actions but what happen to your DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTING/ what happen to the curving of crime and the neighborhoods you supposedly been protecting.  What happen to my protection when the old me vowed to suppress the new me / or are you just about your $20,000 a year not worried or concerned I became free.  Freed from the freedom that trapped me inside self segregation / conquering those chains & your shackles that intentionally cripple rehabilitation.  But you suppose to be the redeemer and the nation of a second chance // forgetting your atrocities that you the one brought me to the dance.  At my expense you kept the party going calling it the new THANKSGIVING / thankful for my stupidity in believing an award or popularity must be winning. In becoming a winner I lost family communication for the glorification of CHI-RAQ cheers / not knowing I imprisoned a house of loved ones & my gangsterism influenced a slew of my peers.  So now my tears have become the well that can help water the youth / with not assistance or no programs I am using my sentence to reveal the truth.  Showing their TRUTH-IN-SENTENCING is false and consists of only legislative locks / hello world I’m back & I am not a prisoner but I am Vernon Watts!
