Man to Man Proposal

This proposal is for: Man-To-Man Prison Mentorship program

Location: Hill Correctional Center, 600 Linwood Road, Galesburg, IL 61401

Reason For Mentorship Program: This is a program for younger adult inmates who has found themselves incarcerated for a period of time within I.D.O.C. and young men who have a need to learn and understand ways of using their incarceration to benefit their mental growth, as well as to hone in and develop their rehabilitative potential to become more useful to society than when they entered I.D.O.C. This program will help young men who come into the prison system as merely children develop properly into men, as prison has a way of separating a young man from seeing and therefore from learning how to properly and adequately age mentally, (sometime’s even in understanding how to care for their aging physical beings; as far as grooming, hygiene, exercising and dealing with stress). This program will help these young men keep and create family and friendship bonds while remaining incarcerated. All-in-all, this program will help these young men learn from those who have already been through what they either are and or will go through while incarcerated. This will be a program of adult talk, from MAN-TO-MAN.

Its Mission: The mission of this program is to assist young men in making their stay within I.D.O.C. one that will benefit them, therefore benefiting society, their families and their loved ones by taking care of their physical beings and properly aging them mentally.

Competitive Programs Within Facility: There are some mentally benefiting programs for offenders such as parenting and anger management. Though there are no programs that will address the much needed mental and physical development that each and every inmate will have to go through in their lengthy stay here in prison. A change that each and every inmate that has already been imprisoned for an extended period of time has as well had to go through; some successful, some not so much.

Criteria of Class: The criteria for this class will be any adult male within Hill Correctional Center that feels they need an older male to mentor them through this alien and horrific time within their lives as inmates.

Material Needed: Adult conversation is the only material needed.

Days And Times Needed: We would like to meet once per week to talk about any questions, concerns or hardhhips that participants may have.

Who will be the Mentors: Each mentor will be older men who have been incarcerated for an extended period of time, from different racial backgrounds, and who have been through the most rigorous of the streets and prison, yet who have changed their lives in a positive manner while in prison; therefore being able to be a walking example of the mentorship that they attempt to bring to the younger adult inmate.
