While in prison our sources of information are limited to the television and news medias, all from local stations that serve the area around the prison. Other sources are national cable media outlets that rarely cover Chicago news in a comprehensive way. So P.E.’s main source of Chicago news is print media, i.e. Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune. It’s costly but necessary to our mission of building a bridge to our home communities in Chicago. There is one topic that Chicago is always trying to get a handle on: THE VIOLENCE! Not only is it incomprehensible, it’s extremely disturbing.
In order to bring you a perspective that is uniquely connected to our situation as incarcerated men, we will be posting the answers, specifically by answering the following two questions: 1) What is the root cause of all the violence being inflicted by Black men on their community? 2) How can this violence be stopped or at least curtailed? These mind-boggling questions will be answered by several prisoners over the next few months.
We will be posting several responses from prisoners that once lived in these communities who were convicted of murder. This is an attempt to shed some light on the issues and hopefully uncover a perspective that will help the community to better understand “What’s going on?”
