Important Note to our Supporters

MLK Day 2017, I received a summons that couldn’t be refused from I.A. ( Internal Affairs) to meet and discuss the purpose of Prisoner’s Exchange.  Although the website has been in operation for a little over a year, this was the first conversation, to my knowledge, between prison officials and contributors of the Prisoner’s Exchange posts.  They wanted to know what motivated the creation of the website.  Our mission statement clearly states our motivation but I explained that we want our voices heard.  We believe the public deserves real insight from the inside on prison conditions, life, culture and economics.  PE has no desire to circumvent security, break any rules or disrupt the orderly running of this or any prison. In fact, we hope our voices can be a factor in the call for prison reform by Governor Rauner and the former President of the United States, Barack Obama.  We want to see prison officials regroup and refocus on rehabilitation and programs.  We are please that the initial conversation was cordial, respectful and hopefully productive.  My hope is that this will be a beginning  and PE will be able to regularly work with the IDOC in our combined efforts to get truly effective reform in prisons.

Sincerely,

Friday
