Thriving Teams
After completing FFL and TTL, the next class up is Thriving Teams
(TT). I remember thinking that I probably won’t jibe with this class because as a long term prisoner i’d become conditioned to avoid working with others. That is a typical trait among those who have been incarcerated for 20 yrs. or more. My experiences with teams while in prison have been beset with the common negative patterns that cause teams to fail. The teams had members who didn’t pull there weight or had some issues with trying to exert to much control. There has also been members with bad attitudes that erode team moral.
The thing about TT is that the class addresses all that, this is the first book that I have ever encountered that teaches about team construction. I learned that in order for teams to succeed the members should bring different strengths to the table and work to find common purpose. If the team members don’t believe that everyone is fully engaged or committed to the success of the team goals equally then apathy can hamper a teams success.
This book helped me overcome my hang ups about team participation. It motivated me to build a team so that I could experience the lessons from the book first hand. TT has been a life altering read for me, the most important lesson for me has been about purpose. TT breaks down the different stages our personal connection to the various causes we take on in our lives, its all tied to our purpose in life. The bigger the cause the more we need strong teams reach our goals. We build strong teams by finding common purpose with others. We need teams to accomplish our most heart felt goals.
