WHO ARE YOU

Who are you is a about how most young men at some point in their life face an “Identity Crisis” where the catalyst could lead them into the Criminal Justice System. Society has no preventative plan to address this problem in our community, so many young men are left to chart their own course thru some difficult times in their life. Benson is incarcerated and confronted by two inmates, Conscious who has achieved positive self-discovery and GRL who has not had a successful journey in life. Benson must select the path that is right for him. Should he continue down the same path or make the decision to better himself. Which road will he choose?

MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

Who am 1? 1 am you. 1 come from a long lineage of Preachers,
my maternal great-grandfather was a preacher; My grandfather was
a preacher and my father, was a preacher. In fact, my father
licensed me to preach and when I was only 18, my father ordained
me to the Ministry. I have a bachelor’s degree in sociology and
divinity and I earned my doctorate in Theology. I was also elected
President of the Montgomery Movement Association, 1 also founded
the SCLC-Southern Christen Leadership Conference.

Do you know who I am? I led that 381-day non-violent boycott
against the Montgomery Alabama Public Bus System, I was working
for the benefit of the Black Man, however I’ve been criticized by
the Black Man for my nonviolent methods. Some have. even called me
a coward.

There in the old French Fable of Reynard the fox, there was a
little Rabbit named “Coart” and every time the Rabbit would see
Raynard the Fox, he’d tuck his tail and run away from the Fox.
You see the word Coward passed into the English language through
Coart. Do you really know what a coward is? Do you know what a
coward is? A coward is a person who lacks courage, one easily or
excessively frightened by something as dangerous, difficult, or
painful.

I’ve made 5-points concerning “Nonviolence” as a method in
bringing about better racial conditions. The first point is this
nonviolence stuff is not a method for cowards. 1 didn’t tuck my
tail and run from the racist in the South. 1 didn’t tuck my tail
and run from the racist in Chicago or Chiraq, as it is presently
Referred where they threw bricks at my head! I faced mace! I
faced Dogs! I faced the fire hoses that Bull Conner told them to
turn on us!

But that don’t mean that we don’t have some difficult days
ahead, like anybody 1 would like to live a long life, longevity
has its place, but I’m not concerned about that now. I just want
to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the Mountain,
and I’ve looked over, and I’ve seen the promise land. I may not
get there with you, but 1 want you to know today that we as a
people will get to the promise land.

I’m not worried about anything and I’m not fearing any … I
didn’t survive 48-hours beyond that I seen the Promise Land
Speech. I was assassinated … How ironic … I led a nonviolence
movement … but I was assassinated. I didn’t seek to humiliate the
Racist, but I was assassinated. My attacks were not at White
people. it was directed against injustice, but I was assassinated

You see brothers, prison or the promise land is a psychological state that can restrict, or create the proper habitat for
evolution. Throughout all these barbaric tactics I still managed
to find a higher consciousness within, no matter how the external
situation appeared to be, I found a way to lead the March On
Washington.

To save my Dream-Our Dream that involved putting you in a
better position to make something of yourself. As a result of my
persistence to rid this country of social injustice my life was
cut short, but this Dream continues on. And for those that don’t
who I am by now. I’m DR Martin Luther King JR.
